MadelineName: Madeline King

Age: 15 (16 if it's published after April 9th)

School: Allderdice

Instrument(s): Voice, ukulele, and guitar

How did you get started playing music?

My family has been playing music together as long as I can remember and I've always been encouraged to sing and play music in that environment. I started violin at school in 3rd grade but didn't really fall in love with playing music until I started taking ukulele lessons and singing in 8th grade.

How did you choose your instrument?

I sing because I grew up singing and it makes me really happy when I sing. It's just fun. I play ukulele and guitar because I like how those instruments sound and I can sing while I play them.

What's your favorite style to play?

I like to play rock, folk, and pop music.

Who are some of your biggest inspirations?

My biggest inspiration artist-wise is Danielle Ate the Sandwich. Most people have never heard of her, but she's a great folk singer-songwriter and love to listen to and cover her music. My other biggest inspirations are my grandparents. They both play multiple instruments and have great voices. I love playing music with them and have learned a lot from them over the years.

What's your favorite thing about being a musician?

My favorite part about being a musician is playing music with other people.

What are you looking forward to most about the 2019 House Band?

I'm looking forward to outdoor summer performances and getting to know everyone in band.

How did you get started playing music?

I started playing piano when I was 6 years old and added drums in elementary school (I still play drums in my school band). I picked up the guitar for the first time when I was 11 years old and started lessons. I started writing my own songs at Sunburst, thanks to Mikey Meiers and Shane McLaughlin. I have been writing and playing ever since.

How did you choose your instrument?

My mom had an old guitar, and she asked me if I was interested in learning to play it. I took to it pretty quickly.

What's your favorite style to play?

I prefer to play acoustic (but I do play electric as well, when needed), particularly Roots Rock and Indie Folk, but I am willing to play and listen to pretty much anything.

Who are some of your biggest inspirations?

I have had some great teachers who have probably been my biggest influences (shout out to Mikey Meiers, Shane McLaughlin, and Andrew Shingledecker). Other influences: John Mayer, Paul Simon, Jack Johnson, and Matt Maeson.

It's super fun to do, and I love the atmosphere and energy of playing for other people. It makes me happy.

I started taking piano lessons when I was really young, after wanting to take guitar lessons. My dad wanted me to have a more musical background, and I started with learning the piano.

I eventually switched to guitar, but with the house band I'm a utility player, so I switch around all of the time, between keys, guitar and vocals.

emilianoName: Emiliano Siegert-Wilkinson

Age: 15

School: Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12

Instrument(s): Bass Guitar, Double Bass

How did you get started playing music?
I've always loved music and found it really important to my life. Most of my friends were musicians and the amount of energy and emotion that came from performance, from just jamming out at home, was something I wanted to contribute to. So I came to Sunburst for my first lesson, and have been playing since.

How did you choose your instrument?
I heard this Charles Mingus recording of Moanin' where Mingus is blazing along under the solos, and I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever heard. I started listening to bass more inside of music I already loved and wanted to do it myself.

What's your favorite style to play? Soul music

Who are some of your biggest inspirations?
Michael League, Charles Mingus, Joe Dart, Brian Ritchie of the Violent Femmes, and Chris Barker of Anti Flag

What's your favorite thing about being a musician?
Being a musician is fun! I get to perform and have moments with my friends, and share something that's important to me. It's challenging and it can be painful sometimes but it's so worth it.

What are you looking forward to most about the 2019 House Band?
I love any chance I get to play with other people and to perform, so I think I'm most looking forward to just being part of a band and learning from everyone
