Emily Pivovarnik

Emily Pivovarnik - Voice, Piano, Guitar, Ukulele

Emily has been singing since she could talk. However, she discovered her passion for the piano one day in sixth grade music class. Her inspiration for serving her community through music came when she provided concerts for her grandparents at local nursing homes. She quickly saw how healing and powerful music can be, and decided at 15 years old that she would spend the rest of her life helping others through music. She never looked back.

Emily, originally from Scranton, Pennsylvania, received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy from the John J. Cali School of Music at Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey in May of 2018. Her concentration was in piano, where she had the opportunity to study the Dorothy Taubman technique from Sandra Tamman, and was instructed by David Witten and Yuni Bang Kim. Emily also studied voice during her college career. She was a member of the Montclair State University Singers, Chorale, “prima voce” and “vocal accord” choirs under the direction of Dr. Heather Buchanan. She performed several times with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, including Handel’s Messiah, Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Mozart’s Requiem, and Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban.

Emily moved to Pittsburgh in July of 2018 to begin a music therapy internship with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Emily is working as a music therapy intern at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic as well as the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Emily started teaching about three years ago. She has taught private voice, piano, guitar, and ukulele. Emily has also led music groups for toddlers and preschool classrooms. Her teaching style is humanistic and she focuses on what the student is truly passionate about. She encourages all of her students to find a style that works best for them while still employing healthy, natural techniques and methods. Her musical background is in Classical, Jazz, Musical Theater, and Choral music. She enjoys teaching a wide variety of styles, including contemporary and popular music. Her mission is to help her students learn to love music and have fun while doing so!
