Sunburst Rocks Main Stage

Most musicians would agree that they learned and grew the most when they started playing with others. Sunburst Rocks Main Stage is about helping kids who are involved in private lessons to take their playing to the next level through collaboration, creativity and on-stage experience.

Our instructors have years of experience performing and songwriting in the Pittsburgh area and strive to pass that knowledge along to the next generation.

This year round program is divided into three seasons (Fall, Spring, Summer,) each exploring a different genre, artist, album or time period and ending with a concert in a real rock venue. Students work with their instructors during weekly private lessons on parts for each song and come together for a coached band rehearsal once per week. Students are provided several mid-season performance opportunities in community functions as well as getting a taste of what it's like to lay down a track in our recording studio.

Main Stage is a 2 hour per week, year round program. Its appropriate for kids who have been playing for a minimum of a few months and meet a few basic ability prerequisites. Space is reserved each season for newcomers to join any month of the year and still have a role in the upcoming show.

-Mondays 5-7pm, Wednesdays 5-7pm, Fridays 4:30-6:30pm or Saturdays 1-3pm.

-2 hour class (4-5 classes/month).

-Some ability requirements, talk to your instructor for details.

-We ask that our drummers be prepared to play a secondary instrument (either voice, keys, bass, guitar or uke) in addition to drum kit.

Spring 2018 Theme - Countdown to Summer - Bonnaroo Festival Tribute

countdown to summer

The snow is falling, the presents are under the tree, and the menorah is lit. But we have our eyes fixed on warmer weather! That’s why we’re excited to announce our next Sunburst Rocks Season: “Countdown to Summer” (a tribute to the Bonnaroo Music Festival).

The Bonnaroo music festival is held deep in the hills of Manchester, TN and has been attracting over 73,300 concertgoers since its creation in 2002. So why did we choose this theme for our spring season? This time around we wanted something that included a wide range of artists for our students to choose from, and that’s what this festival has–something for everyone.

Starting as a jam and folk event, with it’s roots in the Monteray and Woodstock festivals of the 60’s, Bonnaroo has grown into a genre defying mashup of pop culture. U2, Mumford and Sons, Stevie Wonder, The Black Keys, Bob Dylan, Radiohead, Tom Petty, Beastie Boys, Phish, Tool, D’Angelo, Metallica and Jay Z are just a few of the eclectic artists that have played the main stage over the years.
