Sunburst is offering a music production workshop for the week of Spring Break that anyone can take part in! All you’ll need is access to the GarageBand app on either your Mac, iPad or iPhone, an internet connection, and Zoom. The workshop includes daily group sessions and 45-minute one on one lessons with our amazingly talented Music Production teachers.
You can expect to learn the ins and outs of Garage Band, the basics of electronic music, and create an original pop song to share with your family and friends. At the end of the workshop, we’ll put on a live stream performance for the community to enjoy. The best part is, no previous experience is required!
Each day will start and end with a group Zoom meeting that will give you a chance to connect with your peers and share your work. Our instructors will be giving a brief lesson on a different topic each morning to inspire you to explore and experiment with Garage Band while you wait for your lesson.
This workshop will take place each day during the week of April 6-10th from 11-2:30pm. See the schedule below for more details regarding the daily flow of events. Please note that you will be assigned a breakout lesson slot after signing up, but if you have a preference we can do our best to accommodate it.
11:00-11:30 - Opening Group Zoom
11:30-12:15 - Breakout Lesson Slot 1
12:15-1:00 - Breakout Lesson Slot 2
1:00-1:15 - Break
1:15-2:00 - Breakout Lesson Slot 3
2:00-2:30 - Closing Group Zoom
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is open to all students ages 7 and up, including adults! We will be grouping different age ranges together for the opening and closing sessions, and customizing lesson plans and curriculum for our different age groups.
What equipment do I need?
All you need to join in is a Mac, iPad or iPhone, an internet connection and two free apps: Garageband and Zoom Meetings. We also recommend either headphones or studio monitors, and a midi controller of some kind, especially if working on a computer. We’ll be reaching out to everyone before the workshop and setting up a quick technical consultation to help optimize and troubleshoot your setup so that we can get right to music-making on day one!
How much does the workshop cost?
Our Spring Break Beats and Loops Workshop has a suggested cost of $175 per student for the entire week. However, it’s important to us in a time like this to make these kinds of programs accessible to as many of our students as possible, so we’re offing current students a sliding scale payment for this program. If you’d like to take part and can’t afford the full $175, please get in touch with us to discuss the details.
