Justin is a multifaceted percussionist and educator with experience performing and teaching in a variety of musical settings, including: orchestras, musical and opera pits, contemporary ensembles, chamber groups, world ensembles, jazz and rock bands, and solo recitals. He currently holds the positions of Principal Timpani and Percussion with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Section Percussion with the Johnstown Symphony, and music educator with the Sunburst School of Music.
Gingrich has performed as a timpanist and percussionist in orchestras across the Midwest and Pennsylvania, including the Chamber Symphony of Pittsburgh as Guest Principal Timpani and Percussion, the Fox Valley (WI) Symphony as Guest Principal Timpani, and the Canton (OH) Symphony Orchestra. Following his move to Pittsburgh, he has performed alongside local contemporary and chamber music ensembles such as The Brass Roots, Kamraton, NAT28, and the Resonance Works Chamber Orchestra. Additionally, Gingrich has participated in the Aspen Music Festival, the Festival Orchestra NAPA and the Blackburn Music Academy at Festival Napa Valley, CA, and the Peninsula Music Festival in Door County, Wisconsin.
Gingrich has shared the stage with virtuosic musicians such as Itzhak Perlman, Lucas Meachum, Midori, and the singer-songwriter Seal. He’s also performed under the batons of Joel Revzen, David Robertson, Robert Spano, Martin West, and Victor Yampolsky. He has been awarded accolades for his work in world music, including a DownBeat Student Music Award for Best Latin Jazz Ensemble Performance and the Percussive Arts Society Award for Best World Music Ensemble.
Gingrich completed his bachelor’s degree at Lawrence University and his master’s degree at Carnegie Mellon University. His primary teachers include Christopher Allen, Jeremy Branson, and Paul Evans.
