Brian Hecht - Guitar & Piano

Brian has played guitar for 20 years, and has taught private music lessons for over 10. Thanks to encouragement from his first guitar instructor Jim Petroff, and a confidence-building experience playing in the 2003 PMEA district jazz band, he decided to continue his music education at Duquesne University, earning his Bachelor of Music in 2007.

Ben Sherman - Guitar & Piano

I grew up in a very musical family, and have been fortunate to have been surrounded by music my whole life. I started playing piano at 4 or 5 years old, and then I took up the trumpet in my elementary school band and stuck with it until high school. When I turned 16, I discovered the guitar and fell in love with it. I immediately knew that I wanted to spend my life studying the guitar, and after high school, I attended Duquesne University, and majored in music performance.

Adam MacDougall - Piano

A recent transplant to Pittsburgh, Adam is originally from North Berwick, Maine, and has spent most of his career teaching and performing in and around the seacoast of New Hampshire. He began playing the piano over thirty years ago, and was essentially self-taught all the way through high school.

Aaron Thompson - Voice

I’ve always had a wide variety of interests be they personally, musically, or academically. For example, my music degree from Gettysburg College is comprised of courses in vocal performance, music education, and music theory, as well as excursions to the German, Philosophy, Chemistry, and English departments, and outside of the classroom, I accompanied and music directs several musicals and sang in two a Capella groups.

Fin Haggerty-Hammond - Guitar & Music Production

Fin began studying music in his hometown of Oakland, CA at the age of 10, shortly thereafter becoming involved in the local jazz community.

Annina DeBerardinis - Drums

In 2014, I graduated from Slippery Rock University with a degree in Music Therapy and a concentration in percussion. During my time there, I had the opportunity to study and perform various styles of music such as Rock, Jazz, Latin, and Contemporary, etc. My favorite percussion instruments that I studied and still use as a performer are drum set and hand percussion. I have played percussion with various artists around Pittsburgh such as Sol Persona and Avi Diamond performing pop, rock, and experimental influenced music.

Ben Rossman, Bass Guitar Teacher

As an actively gigging bass player, I have had the opportunity to play a variety of shows with a wide array of musicians. Currently I write songs and play bass (electric and upright) for a soul/funk/jazz band, Lyndsey Smith and the Soul Distribution, and we tour through the Pennsylvania area. We have played multiple large-scale shows, including opening for Tower of Power at the Altar Bar and playing a private party for the lead actor in Grease 2. I also have played in local house bands and large musical productions and written songs for solo artists...

Ernie Francestine, Guitar Teacher

When I was twelve I picked up my first guitar, and sixteen years later I am still falling in love with this fun and exciting instrument. As a beginner, I remember intently practicing to master basic chords and songs and eventually noticed myself making significant strides. This gave me the confidence and determination to stick with it...

Heather DiCocco - Guitar, Piano

I began learning about music in piano lessons as a kid. In high school I decided to get a guitar and teach myself some chords. I mostly played quietly in my room until I started guitar lessons with a teacher who really encouraged me to sing more and try writing songs. I didn’t consider myself a singer but it was through that encouragement that I began gigging around my town with my own music. The act of creating something and sharing it with others was fascinating and very beneficial to me as a teenager. During this time I was also working at a nursing home where I was discovering how much I could connect with residents through music.

Alex Stanton, Guitar Teacher

As a lead guitarist I had the opportunity to play The CMJ Music Festival in New York, N.Y. in 2009 and 2010, SXSW in Austin in 2010, Sundance Film Festival in 2010, the House of Blues in Chicago, and scores of other venues around the country. I currently write, record, and perform folkish pop music under the moniker townsppl...

Originally from South Jersey, Sydney received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance from the Mary Pappert School of music at Duquesne University in May 2018. She was a student of David Alan Wehr, with whom she studied classical piano, her field of concentration, but Sydney was heavily involved in vocal studies.

Casey Hanner – Voice Teacher

I grew up with a musician as a father and a recording studio below my bedroom, so it was inevitable that I would end up involved in music somehow. For the past nine years, I’ve been the lead singer and guitar player of the Pittsburgh-based band Donora. That experience has allowed me to sing on stages of all sizes across the country, from LA to Austin to New York and a lot of places in between....

Mike Molaro - Guitar & Keyboards Teacher

I’ve been playing guitar and writing songs since I was 10 years old. I locked in almost immediately with the instrument, and it quickly became a way to express myself. It often took me away from the screen and helped me vent frustration and cope with preteen insecurities. More than schooling, it taught me the benefits of discipline and hard work. It was a fine craft, a skill, a difficult art, yet it was engaging and fun. A tough task with long-term goals I could actually appreciate, this was a first for me....
