July 17 | Piano Club Join us for the Sunburst Piano Club from 5:30–7pm, led by our talented instructor Jaime Cohen! This club is a great opportunity for piano students to dive deeper into music theory, enjoy interactive and educational games like Music Jeopardy, and gain performance experience!

Age Groups
Ages 5–7 - 5:30–6:15pm
Ages 8–12 - 6:15–7pm

Piano Club will be held on the 4th Friday this month. Classes will resume on the 3rd Friday of each month starting in July.

July 19 | Songwriter Group Share Are you a seasoned or new songwriter looking to share music and get some peer feedback? Bring your instrument, voice, and what you’re working on to our monthly songwriting group, peer facilitated by Abbey Martin. This group is open to all adults ages 18+ including non Sunburst students.

The Songwriter Group Share is held on the 3rd Sunday of every month.

Time: 3–5pm

July 24 | Sunburst Jazz Jam Whether you're a beginner or a pro, join our Jazz Jam to play and learn about Jazz music in a supportive group setting! Facilitated by instructors Thanakarn Limtham, Stephen Weinstein, and Charlie Scott, this session offers teens and adults of all levels the chance to perform in a group context alongside our instructors and their peers.

If you'd like to play, please review the provided list of jazz standards linked below. Anyone is welcome to join in, but we ask that those taking the stage familiarize themselves with at least one tune from the list.

7–9pm | Ages 14+ and Adults

Our campers spent the week taking lessons, rehearsing in bands, and even experimented with Foley sound design. We’re super proud with these kids and the rockin concert they put on at the end of the week. They brought the haus dahn! ?⚡️

Witch’s Mark is a Pittsburgh-based jazz-rock / rock-jazz band committed to the noble task of making existential dread groove. Blending fusion-inflected harmonies, restless rhythms, and anti-capitalist lyricism, the band approaches revolution less as a manifesto and more as a very danceable crisis. The group features Laura Fidalgo on vocals, Bo Powers on guitar, Leelin Bowser on bass, Daniel Hayashi on keyboards, and Alex Shallenberger on drums.

We also had another successful Disney themed cabaret that helped us raise money for the Sunburst Scholarship Fund. Shoutout to Mayim for organizing, and thank you all for showing up and helping us keep music education accessible to as many kids as we can ??

House Band Student Feature: Shira?? ⚡️

Meet Shira, the keys player and vocalist for this year’s House Band! She’s been a student with us for about 5 years and is quite the multi-instrumentalist! In addition to voice and keys, she also plays the guitar and bass. You can see her sing lead and play guitar in her other band Korok, which is also part of the Sunburst Band Program. We’re stoked to have Shira in the House Band this year!

House Band Student Feature: Gwendolyn ??

Meet Gwendolyn, the bassist and vocalist for this year’s House Band! She has been taking voice lessons for about 11 years and started with us when she was just 5 years old. For the past four years, she’s been playing bass and has performed as both a bassist and vocalist in the Sunburst Band Program. We’re so happy to have Gwendolyn in the House Band this year!

1. What Instruments do you play?
I play bass and I sing

2. How long have you been playing your instrument?
I have played bass for the last 4 years and have been taking lessons as sunburst for around 3. I started taking voice lessons with Casey when I was 4 or 5 so it’s been about 11 years.

3. What inspired you to start taking music lessons?
My older sister is a musician and has always inspired me to play music - I love playing and singing with her.

4. What have you been listening to lately?
Lately I’ve been listening to Rosalia’s new album LUX and a lot of Bobby Gentry.

5. What song are you most excited for your friends to hear at the next House Band show?
I’m really proud of like eating glass - the instrumental is complicated but I think we all sound really together and it shows how we work as a team.

We know that performing might be intimidating to some of our students, but just know that our recitals come with a 10/10 supportive and encouraging audience! All of our students regardless of skill level are encouraged to participate. Be sure to talk with your teacher about signing up as well!

The Adult Only Recital will be on Friday, December 5th from 7-9. Our adult students can choose to perform during their teacher’s specific recital session as well.

The Sunburst Producers Meet Up is a free monthly session hosted by @cscott412 —his track is featured on this post! New and established producers ages 14+ are encouraged to join and share their works in progress and receive feedback from peers. All genres and levels of experience are welcome as well.

Participants are encouraged to come with music to share in a .WAV, .AIFF, or high quality .MP3 format.

This group meets on the second Friday of every month from 7-9pm in our lobby. We hope to see you this Friday!
